Meadow Art show

Intro

In the Meadow this year we asked the question “How can we support the children’s understanding of their own gifts and the gifts of others through what they contribute to the community.” Everyone in the Meadow brings with them a unique understanding of the world around them. This diversity and individuality is what makes our classroom great. We invite each of you to journey with us through a sampling of the work your children have completed in the classroom.

Local Leaf Man

At the beginning of the year we read a story called “Leaf Man”. The story is about how the leaves travel with the wind and become different characters wherever they land. On a hike we gathered leaves from our county and made our own leaf characters.

Letters for leaves

After creating our own leaf men we realized that leaf selection was rather limited compared to the pictures that we saw in the book. And we wondered how we could expand our leaf collection. We decided to send letters to our family members asking them to send us letters from where they lived! We ended up with tons of leaves from all over the country!

Leaf Man from around the Continent

The children used the leaves sent to them from their families to create another Leaf Man picture.

What does winter look like?

To Celebrate the first day of winter we asked the children what does winter look like? The children were excited to share the colors they associated with winter. We covered the art studio in Purple, Blue, white art materials and the children each created a scene that represents what winter looks like to them.

Painting with Mindfulness

Offering the children Watercolors, fabric, and droppers. We asked the children to slow down their painting process and to watch what the paint does on the fabric. “It moves slowly” Aspen observed, Van noticed that his “looks like a galaxy” and David acknowledged that he “became very relaxing with the process.”
THANK YOU ALL FOR JOINING THIS YEAR'S VIRTUAL ART SHOW!

About Timberline:

We are a school for young children from ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Our approach is Reggio Emilia inspired. The following principles guide our approach and curriculum: The child is an active, strong, competent collaborator in the evolution of their learning. The teacher is a guide, rather than an instructor, who observes, questions, researches, documents, reflects, and interprets. The classroom is a teacher unto itself! The relationships that develop between the children, their families, and the teachers create opportunity for growth, reflection, and support. Long-term projects are at the core of our program, using the children’s interests, and the teacher’s observations, as the guide.
