January 2017

Good Morning TLC Families,

I wanted to thank you for all of your support that contributed to an incredible year for all of us here at TLC.  It is these meaningful partnerships that provide the foundation for such important work at our school. As we approach our 10th year of operation, it is exciting to reflect back on where we began and how far we have evolved thanks to our families and to the dedication and hard work of our Staff.  We will be holding our Staff Holiday Party next week and hope that this evening full of fun and good cheer sets the stage for another wonderful year with this amazing team!!
I want to provide a few updates/reminders here that will hopefully guide our Timberline Family into a happy and healthy New Year.
*Car Seat check: January 4th @ 4:30-5:30pm at TLC. This is an opportunity to work with our Red White and Blue Fire Department to ensure that we are all traveling to and fro as safely as possible during the winter weather.
*Traffic Control: We all struggle with navigating traffic, especially with all of the holiday guests on the roads. Please accept this reminder that there is only one path to take during pick up and drop off- enter from Valley Brook Street and exit onto Airport rd.  We have had several near miss accidents with drivers trying to exit onto Valley Brook St, so please follow this appropriate route and keep everyone safe.
*Volunteerism: this is an essential part of our school culture and we are grateful for everyone who regularly participates.  We request that our families contribute monthly to 1 hour of volunteerism or $15 in materials- this allows us to enhance our existing family partnerships, model altruism for our students, and procure materials that allow for meaningful explorations. This works on an honor system, so please note your contributions on your family page in the log at the front desk. A $25 fee is assigned on the following month’s invoice if this has not been completed. The front desk as well as your child’s classroom always has a wealth of ideas that can be incorporated into your already busy lives, so please ask for ideas.
*Community Connections: Exploring the world outside our doors is an important component of our philosophy, so we are regularly looking for ways to connect.  Our Little Grove developed a service project in the spirit of the Holidays and before we end it on January 15th, we are hoping for some more participation.  There are boxes outlining what is most needed by the FIRC food bank so please take a moment to consider picking up a couple of extra items the next time you stop by the grocery store.  If you have suggestions for further community connections, please share with us!!
*Family socials: We have received wonderful feedback about the pancake breakfast/bounce house social. So many of you came out to play and that was really wonderful to see, thank you.  If you have ideas about ways to get our families together to meet and connect, please share them with me- we love helping to make these connections!!

We wish you all a healthy and happy New Year

Best,

The Timberline Team

About Timberline:

We are a school for young children from ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Our approach is Reggio Emilia inspired. The following principles guide our approach and curriculum: The child is an active, strong, competent collaborator in the evolution of their learning. The teacher is a guide, rather than an instructor, who observes, questions, researches, documents, reflects, and interprets. The classroom is a teacher unto itself! The relationships that develop between the children, their families, and the teachers create opportunity for growth, reflection, and support. Long-term projects are at the core of our program, using the children’s interests, and the teacher’s observations, as the guide.
